I am 35 years old, live in East London, used to work as a journalist but for the last 12 years I have been working for the provincial legislature in Bhisho as a Snr Communications Officer. I am happily married to an incredible man, Johan, who has been an endless support system during my many health challenges. I have 4 dogs, love walking, am a fanatic reader, am easy-going, love being around and being of help to people. My motto in life is that I am not here to see through people, but to see people through. I involve myself in disability causes and have been vocal in making the Legislature accessible for disabled people. I permanently walk with a crutch due to the damage to my spinal cord by the Transverse Myelitis. I do motivational talks for the EC Arthritis foundation & local disabled organisations.

I am 35 years old and have battled with chronic auto-immune diseases (Lupus, Crohn's Disease & Transverse Myelitis) for the last 15 years of my life. I have had many rounds of chemo to manage the Lupus and am on immune suppressants for the rest of my life. I have now been in remission for 12 months, and am at my 'healthiest' that i've been in many, many years. But due to the severity of the Lupus, I have been advised by my specialist not to fall pregnant. The biggest miracle is that I am still fertile even after all the ongoing chemo treatment. Despite all the health challenges, I have many blessings for which I am so grateful for; I have a wonderful, caring and supportive husband who is 41, have a good job and wonderful friends. But deep down inside I yearn to hold my own child. It physically hurts when I think about not having a child of my own. I grew up in a children's home, and made a promise to myself years ago when I was a child that when I had a child I would love and protect that child as a parent should. A child is a gift from God, and it is a gift that I and my husband would cherish forever.
