I am a 37 year old Primary School Teacher working in an International school in Shanghai, China and teaching the national curriculum of England. I have worked at several teaching posts around the world and have been lucky enough to experience and get to know many different cultures and people. I met my French husband, Jean-Charles (Charlie) six years ago here in Shanghai and we have been undergoing fertility treatment for the past four years (not an easy task if you live in mainland China). After the final IVF attempt using the remaining two embryos from my egg donor and husband, we are desperately looking for a final opportunity in this emotional roller coaster ride so many of us are experiencing.

Intended Parents preferences

We have experienced four years of stressful fertility treatment. The first two in a country where nobody speaks English and the latter two in Hong Kong. After 3 unsuccessful three IVF attempts using an egg donor, we now find ouselves in a situation with no more frozen embryos remaining and personally unwilling to try IVF again as it took a huge toll on my body, on both my husbands and my minds and was extremely costly. Living in China it is illegal to donate eggs/sperm and was told by the doctor rather matter of factly that it is a waste of time for me to continue treatment and to give up all hope of becoming a parent - quite a hard statement to swallow. After further research and a second opinion we decided to travel to Hong Kong for IVF treatment as they have the same laws as the UK regarding donors except that we were personally responsible to find our own egg donor. My twin sister was deemed too old so an extremely generous and close Tibetan friend offered. As I already mentioned, all attempts were unsuccessful and as adoption is not possible for British/French couples in China and the difficulty of inter-country adoption for us being based in mainland China, we are now looking for a new and final option.

Dear Surrogate Mother We very much hope this poem tells our story and appreciation. I will call the poem 'Our ray of hope'. From the moment my husband and I fell in love we decided to share our our lives, with a special girl or boy or two who could share with us life's highs. We imagined the the tender moments, the first smile and laugh. Bathing, holding, cuddling, feeding and having fun in the park. As our dream began to fade and time passed by, it was hard to keep believing that we would hear our new arrival's cry. To find the wonderful woman who could help our dream come true, relit our flame of hope and lives not so blue.
