Let me begin by introducing my husband and I, I am Emma and my other half is Nick. We are from the UK I’m originally from Liverpool and live in an apartment that we own in Surrey in a suburb called Epsom. I am a secondary school SEN teacher and Nick is an events manager. We enjoy travelling, have a passion for the arts, often spend time socialising with our network of friends and family and last but not least, love to cuddle with our cat on the sofa whilst watching a good box set. We do not smoke and very rarely drink only at celebrations usually. In general we try to eat balanced meals and workout a few times per week - I am sure we could improve our diet and gym routine a little but we aren’t unhealthy and believe in the motto ‘everything in moderation’.

Intended Parents preferences

Our journey that led us to surrogacy has been an emotional one unfortunately. In 2015 we had an ectopic pregnancy which left me with only my left tube. I also have PCOS so I don’t ovulate regularly. After trying ovulation meds, the doctors then suggested that we undergo a cycle of IVF which we did. We were very fortunate to have created 15 top quality embryos and one other. I developed OHSS after the IVF and so they froze all for them. A few weeks later, they successfully transferred one of the frozen ones back to me which took and we found out we were pregnant. I miscarried at around 5 weeks. A few weeks later we found out that we were naturally pregnant with twins and we felt incredibly shocked and blessed. As the pregnancy progressed and everything looked healthy at our scans, we began to imagine that this time we were really going to be parents to two beautiful baby boys. At 23 weeks and 2 days I went into labour. Both of our boys were born with strong heartbeats and so the doctors took them into the NICU. Our second born Archie gave a good fight but only managed just over a day before he left us. We were then pinning all of our hopes and dreams onto our first born, Eden. He was considerably bigger than Archie had been and for 9 days he was beating the odds and doing better than expected. The doctors felt he was ready to change the type of ventilator he was on. Devastatingly however, when they removed the ventilator, his heart went into shock and although he fought for a few hours, eventually his little body couldn’t fight any longer and he went to look after his baby brother. We were absolutely distraught. Whether I can even get pregnant again is concerning in itself, but the medical recommendation is to wait for at least another year before trying again at this point and we would like to be able to do the things that younger parents can do, hence looking into surrogacy I am 30 and Nick is 35. On top of this, if we had another IVF cycle the chance of preterm labour is higher anyway coupled with the fact that we have already had a preterm labour.
